Bulk Uploading Transactions via CSV

If you have multiple transactions to add at once, you can upload them all in a single CSV file. This is especially useful when migrating your existing income and expense history into Trader Node for the first time.

Before you start

Your category names in the CSV must exactly match the names set up in Settings → Categories & Tags, including capitalisation. Get those configured before running a bulk import.

Your currency values in the CSV must match a currency that's already turned on in Settings → Currency. If a row uses a currency you haven't enabled yet, that row won't be mapped correctly on import — see Step 2 and "Common mistakes" below.

→ See: Categories & Tags Settings → See: Currency Settings

Step 1: Download the template

Go to the Transactions page. Click the template icon in the toolbar above the data table (top right). Open the file in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app.

Step 2: Fill in your data

Capitalisation matters on every field. Rows with mismatched values will not be recognised by the system.

Step 3: Export as CSV

Save or export the file as .csv before uploading.

Step 4: Upload

On the Transactions page, click the upload icon above the data table. Select your CSV file. Your entries will appear at the top of the table.

After uploading: finishing each entry

Click Edit on each imported transaction to complete or confirm the fields that couldn't be set via CSV, or that didn't map correctly:

  • Recurring frequency (Monthly / Weekly) — only needed if you set recurring to Yes. The CSV can mark a transaction as recurring, but the frequency and end date must be added afterward.

  • End date — only needed for a recurring transaction, and only if it isn't ongoing.

  • Currency — only needs fixing here if the currency in your CSV wasn't turned on in Settings → Currency before you imported. If it was already enabled, it will have mapped correctly and there's nothing to do.

Once saved, those transactions will be included in your KPI cards and dashboard data.

Common mistakes

  • income or expense instead of Income or Expense — capitalisation must be exact

  • paid with a trailing space — copy-paste from other sources can add invisible characters; type values manually if in doubt

  • 07-12-2026 instead of 07/12/2026 — slashes only, not dashes

  • A category name that doesn't exist yet in Settings → Categories & Tags — add it there first

  • A currency that isn't turned on yet in Settings → Currency — turn it on before importing, or fix the transaction's currency manually afterward

  • Setting recurring to Yes and forgetting to add a frequency afterward — the transaction will show as recurring but won't have a schedule until you edit it
