Can I Import Data From a Spreadsheet?
If you've been tracking your trading business in a spreadsheet and you're ready to move to something more structured, Trader Node offers a few ways to bring your data in.
Statement Imports for Private Accounts
The Private Accounts module supports statement imports. You can upload broker statements in CSV or PDF format, and Trader Node will parse the file to extract your ending balance, statement date range, and any deposits or withdrawals. The system matches the statement to an existing account (or offers to create a new one) and creates the appropriate records automatically.
This is the fastest way to get your private account history into the platform without re-entering every transaction by hand.
Manual Entry for Everything Else
For challenges, funded accounts, payouts, expenses, and general transactions, the current approach is manual entry. This is intentional — these categories require context that a spreadsheet import can't reliably provide.
For example, a row in your spreadsheet that says "$150 - FTMO" could be a challenge purchase, a fee, a payout, or a refund. Only you know the answer, and entering it manually ensures it's categorized correctly from the start. Misclassified data is worse than no data at all, especially when it feeds into your Dashboard metrics and tax reports.
Tips for Migrating From a Spreadsheet
If you have months or years of data in a spreadsheet, here's a practical approach to making the switch:
Start with today. Begin using Trader Node for all new activity going forward. This is the most important step — don't let the desire to import historical data prevent you from getting started.
Backfill the current year. If tax reporting is a priority, work backwards through the current fiscal year to ensure your Annual Tax Summary will be complete. Focus on payouts, challenge costs, and major expenses first.
Don't try to import everything. Your spreadsheet served its purpose. Trader Node is your system going forward. You don't need to recreate five years of messy data — you need a clean, accurate starting point.
Will Bulk Import Be Available in the Future?
We're always looking for ways to make the onboarding process smoother. Any future import features will be built with the same priority: data accuracy over speed. We'd rather have you spend a few extra minutes categorizing your data correctly than auto-import thousands of rows with errors baked in.
For now, manual entry combined with statement imports for private accounts gives you the best balance of speed and accuracy.
